The (Gonna Be) Vocablinator

Help
Word to update

Please make sure the books you are using are the new ones, not the ones in use right now.

Please fill out the form and click Add, or hit the enter key. If you're unsure about any of the fields that aren't required, leave them blank. Every little bit you do helps a lot.

To prevent you from wasting time entering words already in the database, words similar to the one you type will appear to the left. If these match what you are going to submit, you don't need to bother. Note that words will only appear if they match the part of speech selected.

Only fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required, but the more information you fill out, the more helpful it is.

So please feel free to post any comments you might have. No HTML, please; it won't get parsed. You can use *asterisks* for italics and _underscores_ for bold. Thanks to Patrick from Englipedia for suggesting the comment box!

Hope this isn't too stupid a question, but when the word is both a noun and an adjective should we enter the word twice?

  3. Vid

No question is stupid :-) The answer is yes - we need a separate entry for each. Thanks a lot for helping!

Thanks for the reply! New question: have just come across the fact that the second book in the Sunshine series contains words such as 'zoo', and notes that they appear in the first book, by using a box with a number one inside (a bit like this: [1]). Should we add those words into the vocablinator for the second book, or skip them? They don't have a page reference.

Just wanted to make sure the database is working correctly. I entered some "A" words last week and now they don't seem to appear on the left of the screen when I type them. I'm happy to help, but don't want to plug away at this project if I'm doing something wrong and the data isn't being recorded some how. Thanks. ETA: I tried posting this (and entering words, too) using Firefox but my comment wasn't registering. Now I'm trying IE and I can see comments from others that weren't there before. Could this be my problem? Use IE and not firefox?

@yukikaki Yeah, you don't need to enter the words from previous books. Once you take this into consideration the word lists in books 2 and 3 don't seem so insurmountable anymore :-) @M.M. The words appear to the left only if the part of speech selected is the same. If the words you entered was the adjective "yellow", try selecting adjective from the dropdown list and typing "ye". If you do this and the word doesn't appear, there may be a problem; let me know. Don't worry too much, though; I am emailed a backup of the entire database every time a word is entered. If you see a success message, rest assured that the word has been stored somewhere :-)

Damn, I forgot to allow for multiple paragraphs in comments. D'oh. I'll fix it tonight.

@M.M. I did test in FireFox as well as IE, Opera, Safari and Chrome, but maybe I missed something. What version of FF were you using?

  9. M.M.

Thanks, Vid. That seems to have been the situation. After selecting the type of word from the list my previous entries suddenly appeared. You might want to mention that that in the avoiding duplication message that people should choose the word type before entering in their word so that duplcates appear. Does what I wrote make any sense? Anyway, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Okay, well I believe I've fixed the Firefox issue; comments should now work in all browsers.

I'll also be adding some more detailed help soon; I'll be sure to mention about the duplicates. Cheers.
